My Role As Protector
Nate and Laura had been playing. She enjoys telling him to “Go count,” and she informs him, “Wa-wa (Laura) hide.”
He closes his eyes and counts to 5. She chooses to run into the room where I’m at and closes the door behind her. I decide to stand in front of her, so when Nate enters the room, she thinks she’s completely hidden behind me.
As he opens the door, she stands still behind me. I start playing along and telling Nate that he can’t get Laura because she’s hiding behind me.
In an instant, I knew I had to write about it. Only a few hours later, my cousin would send a picture that you see above - confirming what God was already speaking to my heart.
As parents, we are protectors of our children. We nurture and care for them. We provide their physical needs. We give love and guidance. I believe that one of our highest purposes is to protect.
I was blessed with parents who protected me. I can look back throughout my entire life and how they raised me. Would people consider me “sheltered”? Probably. But you know what? There were SO many things I was PROTECTED from because of my parents best efforts to do so.
When I think about Laura’s future, I think of various avenues that Nate and I will take to ensure that she is protected. Not only from physical things of this world, but also spiritual things that could come against her.
Our prayers over her make a difference. What Nate and I bring into our HOME make a difference. The things we choose to listen to or entertain make a difference. How we speak to each other and to her make a difference.
If you are in a parental or mentoring role, my encouragement for you today is to be a protector over those who are looking up to you. Pray over them. Guard them from attacks that could come against them. God entrusted us with these beautiful souls, and I am going to do everything in my power to make sure that I am protecting her.
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6 KJV

Yes, amen! You and Nate are beautifully protecting and nurturing your sweet girl! <3
